I have now realized that fans of horror movies on the Internet
are extremely close, and very welcoming to new members. I stumbled upon a horror movie fan forum
(www.horrormoviefans.com), and I decided to create a profile, upload an avatar,
and start posting to see if anyone would notice me. My first post was about the movie the Crow
starring Brandon Lee. My post was used
as an introducing tool.
“Hi I’m Holly, and I am a crazy
Crow fan because that movie is awesome. Does anyone agree?” I got over ninety views and sixteen responses
just in a couple hours.
On this website, they have multiple
message boards and multiple topics and categories you can choose from. There are entertaining surveys and
games. For example, one person wrote a
post that asked us all to tell everyone what the latest movie we watched was
and to please include a rating from one to ten.
This person said that all genres could be included in this poll, but
everyone had just watched a horror movie.
I also noticed that horror films are not all they talk about. There are other post like this such as “joke
of the day” and the “goriest scene of the day.”
On this site, there are only about twenty active users so they have a
very tight click and know each other and talk about their lives together. One would think that a tight group like this
would not be too welcoming to a new comer, but they were very welcoming. They asked me a bunch of questions and
quizzed me about the horror genre. Once
they knew I was a true fan, they were very happy to consider me one of them.
There is also a link on this
website to a news blog which is very fun to go to because it keeps you up to
speed of what is going on in the horror world.
There has been a great deal of discussion about how Stephen King’s Carrie is being remade, and how
Paramount Pictures recently announced that they would be producing Paranormal Activity 4. A lot of people
think making Paranormal Activity 4 is
the dumbest thing in the world! I commented on this post:
“This is what My Dad taught me
about the Horror world: If a series of films keep on making a certain amount of
money at the box office, trust me, they will continue to produce more of them until
they have ruined the entire story, killed off all the good characters, and
killed and brought back the killer at least twenty times. It is all about the money.” The replies I received basically were a
consensus of “Sad but true.”
I am very excited that I have found
this website and now I can take part on this community online. There is a enthusiastic Nightmare on Elm
Street fan that has been talking to me a lot, and he insist that I use a
picture of Bloody Mary he sent to me as my avatar because my username is Bloody
Holly. We talked for hours about American
Horror Story and if and when they are going to create season two. We both crossed out fingers that Jessica Lang
will return.
